Half Day Tours Glengoyne Distillery Journey west into the Campsie Hills to visit Glengoyne Distillery, the most southerly of Scotland’s Highland distilleries. During our VIP guided tour we will discover how the three basic ingredients, water, barley and yeast, are transformed into “the Water of Life”. No tour is complete without a sample of the final product. The Falkirk Wheel This innovative award-winning and environmentally-friendly engineering initiative assists with the lifting of barges and boats 35 meters between the Union Canal and the Forth & Clyde Canal. There is free time to enjoy refreshments in the café before boarding the canal boat for a pleasant journey up to the Union Canal on the Wheel, along the aqueduct, through the Roughcastle Tunnel and under the Antonine Wall before returning to the Wheel for the gentle descent back to the basin. Stirling & The Wallace Monument Over the last thousand years, Stirling has played host to royalty, political intrigue, famous battles and national heroes as well as being a hub of religious life, trade and commerce. A panoramic tour will explore the city in more depth, before visiting the Castle, seat of the Stuart Kings of Scotland. There will be free time to enjoy refreshments in the café and to browse in the gift shop before returning.
The Trossachs and Loch Katrine Cruise Journeying north west into the beautiful area of The Trossachs, we visit the picturesque town of Callander where we take refreshments and free time to browse the selection of craft and woollen shops. Continue along the shore of Loch Katrine to the Trossachs Pier and board the SS Sir Walter Scott, a classic Victorian steamship, for a scenic cruise, enjoying the magnificent landscape. Full Day Tours Glasgow - a city of contrasts Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow, is set on the River Clyde in the west of the country. A former industrial city, Glasgow has undergone a massive redevelopment and rebirth in recent years. A panoramic tour includes the Merchant City, the regenerated Waterfront and the bohemian West End. This morning we will visit the Cathedral, dating originally from the mid 12th century and dedicated to the city’s patron saint Mungo. Free time for lunch and the opportunity to explore the wonderful shops; before an afternoon visit to the House for an Art Lover, built by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, designer, artist and architect in the Arts & Crafts Movement.
Perthshire – The Heart of Scotland Journeying northwards we enter Perthshire, the largest and arguably the prettiest county in Scotland. Crossing the rugged moorland of Gleneagles and Strathearn we continue north to the town of Pitlochry, famous for its hydro-electric dam, salmon ladder and its world-renown Theatre in the Hills. Here we visit Edradour Distillery, the smallest in the country, where we learn how this smooth malt whisky is still produced by a team of just 2 men. After a wee dram and opportunity to browse in the shop, we continue to nearby Blair Castle, home of the Dukes of Atholl, and his private army, the Atholl Highlanders. Lunch can be taken in the restaurant before a guided tour of the house. Our return journey follows the banks of the River Tay, through the beautiful Sma' Glen. Glamis & St Andrews Travel across country to the sweeping plain of Strathmore, to Glamis Castle, childhood home of the late Queen Mother and supposedly the most haunted house in Scotland. Following a guided tour of the house, lunch can be taken in a nearby inn before continuing south, into the Kingdom of Fife, to St Andrews. This ancient town is the spiritual Home of Golf, as well as being rich in cultural and historical sites including the ruined castle and cathedral, St Rules Tower, and the University, all of which we will view as part of our panoramic tour. There will be ample time to explore St Andrews further before returning to Stirling.
Edinburgh – a capital day out Scotland’s Capital City, is divided into two contrasting areas, the mediaeval Old Town, and elegant Georgian New Town. A panoramic tour explores the city in more depth, passing, St Giles Cathedral, Arthur’s Seat, the new Scottish Parliament, and The Port of Leith. This morning we will visit the Castle, perched atop the rock overlooking the city, home to the Scottish Crown Jewels and the One o’Clock Gun; before lunch and shopping at leisure in some of the quaint boutiques. A leisurely walk down the Royal Mile this afternoon brings us to the official residence of the Queen in Scotland, for our visit to the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
